Duties

This position serves as a Administrative Support Assistant for the Color Country District. Serves as clerical point of contact on specific resource program(s) such as grazing, administration, realty, environmental planning, geology. Serves as timekeeper/payroll, assists staff with time and attendance records in the automated payroll system. Serves as a collections officer. Process monies received through the mail and over the counter through the Bureau's Collections and Billings System. Analyzes and develop budget for multiple accounts with various sub-activities and/or funding sources. Purchases office and miscellaneous supplies using acquisition procedures. Provides one-on-one training on administrative procedures and practices. Initiates personnel actions through the Federal Personnel and Payroll System (FPPS). Greets visitors and provide basic guidance on programs and direct visitors and/or questions to the appropriate staff member when necessary. Answers incoming telephone calls, determines the identity and nature of calls, answers caller's questions or directs the caller to the appropriate staff member. Performs administrative tasks using word processing, spreadsheets, data base management, and graphics software.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-06 level you must meet the following: Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level equivalent in difficulty and complexity to perform the duties of a Administrative Support Assistant. Qualifying specialized experience includes: clerical duties such as establishing and maintaining office files and records; handling incoming and outgoing mail; and utilizing computer software and office machines to complete daily tasks. To qualify at the GS-07 level you must meet the following: Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 level equivalent in difficulty and complexity to perform the duties of a Administrative Support Assistant. Qualifying specialized experience includes: knowledge of various budget/financial regulations; handling incoming and outgoing mail; entering, retrieving, and correcting data in an automated data management systems (data entry/coding); communicate effectively orally and in writing; maintaining, balancing, and reconciling multiple accounts; prepare, edit, and finalize correspondence. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: The work is typically sedentary. Some work may require periods of walking, standing, bending, or driving a motor vehicle. The incumbent may frequently lift relatively light boxes, materials, and supplies and/or carry file folders, copied materials, books, and other similar materials. Work Environment: Work is typically located in an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated office environment. The work environment may involve everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, mail distribution centers, meeting and training rooms, libraries, or motor vehicles.
