Position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury, NC in Facilities Management Service. Primary duties of this position are to install new and repair, troubleshoot, modify, load, test and perform preventive maintenance on existing electrical systems, fixtures, controls and equipment, including primary and secondary distribution lines up to 480 volts.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to: Working from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings and electrical maintenance and repair manuals, performs preventive maintenance and repairs to existing electrical systems, fixtures, controls and equipment for furnishing light and power. Disassembles equipment, repairs and/or replaces parts and components, cleans and assembles. Makes operational test and adjustments as necessary. Installs equipment. Cuts, bends and installs metal conduit and installs properly sized wire. Troubleshoots by checking or tracing circuits, locates and diagnoses trouble, repairs or replaces parts and reinstalls. Makes adjustments and solves problems by use of electrical formula for computing voltages, resistance, amperages, capacitances and frequencies. Builds test equipment when such is not available from any other source. Makes repairs to tray conveyors, isolation transformer systems, hospital grounding systems, fire alarm system and emergency generators. Performs other duties as assigned. Lifts carries, pulls, steadies or otherwise moves electrical parts and materials, chain falls or tools weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Installing, adjustments, repairs, or replacement of parts or assemblies may require kneeling, stooping, climbing ladders, reaching over, under and into equipment while in cramped or awkward positions. Call back and emergency overtime are regular requirements of this position.
