This National Guard position is for a TITLE 5 SAFETY SPECIALIST (MI SAAO), Position Description Number T5317000 and is part of the MI SAAO, National Guard.
Duties
***THIS IS A TITLE 5 EXCEPTED NATIONAL GUARD POSITION***
This position is located in the Army National Guard (ARNG) JF-HQ, Aviation and Safety Office (Model A)/Safety and Occupational Health Office (Model B), Ground Safety Section. The purpose of this position is to provide guidance, recommendations and assistance to supervisors and employees regarding established safety methods and techniques.
1. Implements plans, policies and procedures to comply with DOD, DA, OSHA and NGB safety regulations and directives.
2. Evaluates the effectiveness of organizational safety programs through activity visits.
3. Provides technical assistance in accident investigations. Participates in fatality investigations as a team member.
4.Coordinates with and provides assistance in the material and Petroleum Activity and DOD Explosive Safety Board inspections.
5. Presents safety budget requirements with justifications to superiors in support of the statewide ARNG safety program.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Irregular and overtime hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies.
- The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial aircraft/vehicle to perform temporary duty assignments.
- Must have a valid civilian driver’s license.
- Must complete GSOC within one year of assignment, and work towards receiving CP12 qualifications.
Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Months Required: 36 months
Experience, education, or training performing periodic/unscheduled inspections of base facilities, warehouses, and equipment maintenance operations and evaluated compliance with applicable regulations and hazard system. Recommended measures and methods to correct safety and occupational health deficiencies. Participated in planning for testing of munitions, and assured integration of explosive safety criteria in testing procedures. Reviewed test implementation directives for inclusion of appropriate safety criteria. Prepared supplements to regulations and manuals for aircraft weapons safety and developed local regulations defining applicable mishap prevention procedures.
