This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DIB and MRTFB DHA to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Position will be filled as a Term Appointment not to exceed 1 year, 1 day. Term Appointments may be extended up to a maximum of 6 years.

Duties

Write programs for Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machining centers. Load the programs into the machines and make the required parts on a variety of modern Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machining centers. Fabricate, overhaul, calibrate and repairs tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges used by workers performing machining and assembly work. Receive assignments through work orders or oral instruction normally accompanied by blueprints, sketches or a model of the required piece to be manufactured.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation T1 NACI.
  • Completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 1 year and 1 day. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) TOOLMAKER ~ without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform common Toolmaker duties to include fabricating, overhauling, and repairing standard types of cutting tools such as drills, reamers, milling cutters, and carbide tools; jigs and fixtures; drilling templates; punching, forming, and blanking dies; and gages such as plug, ring, snap, and caliper gages. Plan and layout work from blueprints, sketches, or other work specifications; apply advanced shop mathematics and handbook formulas to compute dimensions; set up and operate all conventional machine tools and attachments; select proper tools and machine operations to be used; and perform necessary handwork such as filing, scraping, grinding, and lapping to finish and assemble items. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT Work requires standing, stooping, bending, and reaching; moderate lifting up to 40 pounds when moving machine attachments, and work pieces. Hoists, handtrucks, lifts and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. WORKING CONDITIONS Works indoors under normal shop conditions of dust, dirt, fumes, and noise. There is danger to eyes and lungs from hot chips, grinding particles and coolants; to lungs from grinding dust; and to hands and body from moving machines.
