The position is responsible for performing program work involved in environmental protection, land management planning, and environmental law compliance, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and National Forest Management Act (NFMA). This position assists with coordination for administrative review, litigation, and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) regulations.

Duties

Maintains a working knowledge of current environmental laws, regulations, and policies and applies those laws, regulations, and policies to advise unit interdisciplinary teams. Provides advice and guidance on and prepares or reviews environmental documentation to comply with NEPA and NFMA regulations. May lead interdisciplinary teams carrying out routine environmental studies and evaluations to determine the impacts of various actions or events, such as forest planning projects, on the environment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Provide course descriptions as necessary. For the GS-9: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 in the Federal service. Qualifying specialized experience includes meeting one or more of the following: assisted with evaluating and verifying that work is accomplished in accordance with environmental compliance regulations and laws; assisted in identifying and implementing corrections for environmental issues; participated in environmental assessments and/or drafting, editing, and/or revising segments of environmental impact statements; applying laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to protecting natural and cultural resources; assisted in planning environmental resources projects, such as construction, production, or reclamation initiatives and/or ensured compliance with environmental plans and stipulations. OR Successful completion of master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., in Environmental Planning, Environmental Sciences and Sustainability, Environmental Law, Forest and Conservation Sciences, or Natural Resource Conflict Resolution. OR Successful completion of an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
