This position is located on a Forest Service unit where the incumbent performs a variety of public affairs activities.

Duties

Responds, in oral and written form, to requests for information by determining the nature of the data required and collecting and assembling the material using the appropriate format and style based on needs and organization practices. Develops and presents informational audio-visual programs including slide-tape and video tape programs. Advises program officials regarding the content and presentation of information materials submitted for dissemination or other information purposes.

Qualifications

Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-09: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 in the Federal service. Qualifying specialized experience includes meeting one or more of the following: Prepared and presented speeches for special interests groups, schools, and the general public; Answered routine requests for information about the agency and its programs; Presented programs to groups on agency programs and activities; Developed written materials, feature stories, news releases and magazine articles to disseminate agency activities internal and external use; and/or advised management on the probable public reaction to specific proposals, policies and actions. OR master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D., if related; OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hour may be used to quality applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. For the GS-11: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 in the Federal service. Qualifying specialized experience includes meeting one or more of the following: Responded to requests for information by determining the nature of the data required and collecting and assembling the material using the appropriate format and style based on needs and organization practices; and/ or assisted in evaluation and analysis of public comments on management issues; and/or developed communication approaches, including identifying areas to be addressed, characteristics and needs of the target audience, and communicated techniques most appropriate; and/or developed and presented informational audio-visual material. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related, that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. OR appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
