This position is located on a Forest Service unit and is responsible for providing technical support to the heritage resources staff.
Duties
Analyzes archeological data in preparing reports, for situations where precedents are not fully applicable.
Makes recommendations to be used in "determinations of effect" and "determinations of eligibility" by the archaeologist.
Compiles and reports information about the nature and extent of known cultural resources.
Requirements

- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications

Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: performing standard tasks or portions of larger projects for an archeological program, including creating maps using geographic information system (GIS) software such as GIS ArcMap or ArcPro; and/or assisting professional archeologists in developing/enhancing archeological program components, such as scientific reporting, records and database management, or cultural resource condition monitoring; and/or evaluating problems associated with archeological site protection and implementing corrective measures within the framework of archeological program and legal requirements.
OR
One full year (18 semester hours) of successfully completed graduate level education in archeology.
OR
An appropriate combination of graduate level education and specialized experience that together meets the requirements of the position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
