We expect to fill 1 vacancy at each location and if needed, other locations within the Montana/Dakotas State, District or Field offices may be considered based on need and management discretion.

Duties

Selection at the GS 05 or GS 06 level, the incumbent will perform the duties of the position, with a reduced level of responsibility and/or difficulty, while receiving on-the-job trainee assignments or other appropriate training. At full performance level, duties include, but not limited to, the following: Maps out key areas of use. Inspects structural range improvement and reports violations. Provides assistance in pre-inventory mapping (soils, vegetation, etc.) by preliminary delineation in geographic information systems (GIS). Assists with preparation of grazing lease and permits and in other range administration matters such as cooperative agreements. Coordinates with wildlife biologists to record areas of wildlife uses.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. GS 05: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: work in conservation, regulation, or use of public or federally controlled lands for grazing; range or natural science related research activities; work in the operation of a livestock ranch or in assisting in the management or preservation of lands comparable to public range; or work in vegetation monitoring. -OR- Education: Successfully completed four (4) years of successfully completed education above the high school level leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown below for GS-4. No more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable. - OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. GS 06: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: navigating back country or remote areas independently; experience with fence or range improvement project maintenance; experience collecting rangeland monitoring data; experience reporting and interpreting data collected in the field; or experience recording, tracking, and filing data. -OR- Education: Successfully completed one (1) full years of graduate education related to the work of the position such as forestry, soils, range management, natural resources, botany, animal science, resource conservation, wildlife management, agriculture, or plant science or directly related field. - OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level. Physical Demands: The work ranges from sedentary when completing duties in the office to frequent field workrequiring a considerable amount of walking, riding, stooping, bending, and lifting. Work Environment: Much of the time is spent in the field where exposure to extremes of heat and cold, rough terrain, insects, snakes, and other hazards are common. Carefully adheres to all safety procedures to mitigate hazards encountered.
