This Laborer position is organizationally aligned under the Engineering Service/Maintenance and Operations at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, Chicago, IL. This position performs as a Laborer requiring moderately heavy physical effort and general cleaning. The work requires the use of common hand tools and simple power equipment.
Duties
The major duties include and are not limited to:
Lifting and moving moderately heavy objects such as old equipment, building materials using hand trucks or dollies.
Maintaining grounds for cleaning.
General cleaning of shop spaces, mechanical spaces and utility closets.
Follows specific oral and written instructions to perform assigned tasks.
Assisting journeymen with heavy lifting and act as a parts runner.
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Shifts/Working Hours: Monday - Friday 6:00am - 2:30pm or 8:00am - 4:30pm

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work frequently requires moderately heavy physical effort. There is frequent lifting and carrying objects up to 40 pounds. Incumbent may occasionally lift items up to 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside. Work outside is in all kinds of weather. The equipment used frequently involves special care to prevent injuries. This position is not suitable for Telework.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
