The position is located at the Eastern Colorado Health Care System (VA ECHCS) in the Geriatrics Research, Education & Clinical Center (GRECC) Service. GRECCs are Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Centers of Excellence focused on aging and were established to: build new knowledge in geriatric care through research, improve health care for older Veterans through the development of innovative clinical models of care.
Duties

The GRECC Director monitors the effectiveness of the interactive geriatrics research, education, and clinical innovation programs to develop procedures necessary to advance the overall GRECC program in accordance with all principles, rules, and regulations affecting research within the VA and other Federal Agencies. Monitors compliance with the program requirements. Conducts program assessments and prepares reports necessary to appraise the VISN Director, Medical Center Director, COS, and/or VACO program offices or committees of the status of the program.
The Director must have a history of research funding including such studies whereby the incumbent obtains data through intervention or interaction with individuals, or identifiable private information through medical records, tissues, surveys, observations, or third parties, and/or collects scientific data through use of model organisms, tissues, or bench science techniques to develop information in such areas as causes of diseases common to the Veteran population.
The Director is responsible for articulating and promoting the vision, mission, and goals of the Eastern Colorado GRECC. The incumbent develops, reviews, and/or approves policies, procedures, and timelines for administration of the GRECC programs. Ensures that all GRECC Associate Directors and the Administrative Officer work collaboratively in the annual development and evaluation of the goals, objectives, and priorities of the Eastern Colorado GRECC.
The Director must have a mastery of the knowledge of the theories, principles, concepts, and methodologies of the health science field that are customarily acquired through advanced education and training as a formally trained scientist from a medical and/or doctoral program.
The incumbent serves as immediate interface between GRECC Service and investigators, other ECHCS Service Chiefs, investigators, and support services, VACO (including the national GRECC office and GGAC within the VA Office of GEC), VISN, the local academic affiliates, and the local VA non-profit foundation.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-15 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-14. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Individual Occupation Requirement: You must have successfully completed a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree, with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the Health Science Specialist - Research Database Manager position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation.
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-14 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: oversee very complex and intensive studies that require intricate and/or unconventional or novel approaches. Designs and conducts sophisticated research methodologies and complex statistical and qualitative analyses; proposes and carries out own independent investigations and obtains funding for research. The work involves developing and maintaining a program addressing complex issues surrounding pragmatic and clinically relevant aging-related research.. OR,
