This Information Receptionist position is located in the Patient Care Services at the Danville VA Hospital in Danville, IL and is part of the VA's Great Lakes Health Care System in the Veteran's Integrated Service Network (VISN 12). Incumbent will be assigned to work the front desk in the main lobby/entrance of Building 98 and 58 or roving the medical center based on current need to assist Veterans and visitors.

Duties

Major Duties: Greets Veterans and other guests entering the building. Directs and/or escort Veterans and guests as necessary to their destination within the facility as well as provide appointment list information. Provides general telephone and visitor referral services to appropriate staff member based on specific request or by ascertaining the nature of the call. Provides information about the organization, its functions, activities, and personnel on a routine basis which will also include maintaining an updated listing of clinic locations and contact information. Monitors the usage of Amigos (scooters) that will include signing in and out of such scooters daily. This will also include making sure such scooters remain clean and serviceable. Personally provides information of a routine nature. Work Schedule: 7:30am - 4:00pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/29/2024. EXPERIENCE: Six months of general experience which is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position being filled. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed at least one year of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) OR Combination of Experience and Education: Must have successfully completed equivalent combinations of post-high school education and experience to meet total requirements (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: CommunicationCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Work Practices Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is active. Typically, the employee will be standing or walking most of the day transporting customers in wheelchairs or walking with them to their destination. However, there will be periods of sitting. The employee must be able to transport all customers regardless of size to fulfill their duties. All transporting is completed via wheelchair inside the facility on smooth surfaces.
