This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position located in the Nondestructive Inspection (NDI) Section/Laboratory of Aircraft Maintenance. The purpose of the position is to inspect components, parts, and materials to detect and interpret impending material failures, fatigue, stress, discontinuities, imperfections, corrosion, flaws, delaminations, disbonds, foreign objects, and other discrepancies in aircraft metallic and composite structures, aircraft engines, and/or other related aerospace equipment or components on assigned or transient aircraft and support equipment. Perform quality trend analysis of aircraft engine condition utilizing spectrometric oil analysis. In addition, trains reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. DUTIES: 1. Performs ultrasonic inspections/testing (UT) of critical aerospace components, subcomponents, support equipment, and other materials for which inspection procedures may or may not exist when acceptability standards are inadequate or not available. 2. Perform eddy current inspections/testing (ET) of critical aerospace components, subcomponents, support equipment, and other materials for which inspection procedures may or may not exist when acceptability standards are inadequate or not available. 3. Perform unshielded and shielded industrial radiographic (x-ray) inspections/testing (RT) to include computed radiography of critical aerospace components, subcomponents, support equipment, and other materials for which inspection procedures may or may not exist when acceptability standards are inadequate or not available. 4. Performs stationary and portable fluorescent magnetic particle inspections/testing (MT) and fluorescent penetrant inspections/testing (PT) of critical aerospace components, subcomponents, support equipment, and other materials for which inspection procedures may or may not exist when acceptability standards are inadequate or not available. Performs trend analysis of aircraft oil wetted systems utilizing the Oil Analysis Program (OAP). Prepares for, trains and participates in the training and certification of reservists, Reg AF, and DoD civilians performing nondestructive inspection/testing. 5. Serves as NDI Technical Advisor, advising responsible shop supervisors, engineering, quality assurance and other related functions of defects found, the extent and effect of the quality and serviceability of products. Utilizes safety and tool control practices, Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and AF Environmental Compliance Assessment Management Program (ECAMP) environmental protection practices and procedures and complies with security regulations, directives and policies.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3700 METAL PROCESSING FAMILY. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of an NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTER with little or no supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Ability to follow and communicate both oral and written instructions and to provide the guidance and/or supervision to trainees. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data such as schematic diagrams, blueprints and USAF Technical Order program and its procedures relating to the Nondestructive Inspection (NDI) trade. 2. Skill in the use of standard hand and power tools. Ability to operate electronic devices, i.e., laptop, tablet, ipad. 3. Knowledge of and ability to use radiographic inspection systems, equipment or accessories to include radiation safety and to set up and standardize nondestructive testing equipment, performance checks, process parts, interpret and evaluate for acceptance or rejection, and document results. 4. Knowledge of basic shop mathematics or handbook formulae to calculate basic values or specifications. Ability to locate component/part deficiencies and recommend resolution. 5. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and technical orders. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials inventory and control and the requirements and skill in the use of OAP. 6. Knowledge of aircraft maintenance, relevant product manufacturing and inspection technology, nondestructive inspection techniques, scopes and limitations. Knowledge of industrial hygiene, upkeep, cleanliness and foreign object debris prevention sufficient to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: 1. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow the incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. 2. This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. 3. The incumbent may be required to fly in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments (TDY) away from the normal duty station. 4. May be required to instruct lower grade testers in inspection procedures. 5. May be required to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime to meet workload demands. Incumbent will be required to work off-shifts, i.e. first, second, third shifts in support of 24/7 operations. 6. Performs other duties as assigned. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting (45-79 pounds). Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds). Light lifting (under 15 pounds). Moderate carrying (15-44 pounds). Light carrying (under 15 pounds). Required to do straight pulling, pushing, walking, standing crawling, bending, kneeling, reaching above shoulders and climbing. Working in cramped and strained positions. All NDI personnel SHALL receive a near vision acuity test, either: Jaeger No. 1 at not less than 12 inches (30.48 cm) or 20/25 (Snellen) at 16" (40.64 cm) ±1" (2.54cm), annually while certified. The near vision test is required for only one eye either natural or corrected. When vision correction is necessary to pass the visual acuity exam, vision correction SHALL be worn during all inspections.
