This position is located in the Machinery Support Section, Industrial Equipment Maintenance Branch, Plant Engineering Division, U.S. Mint at Denver, CO. Incumbent machines in-house-manufactured parts and performs maintenance machining operations. The Machinery Support Section is responsible for machining all in house manufactured parts. Performing maintenance machining operations for repair work, and overhaul work to production and support equipment.
Duties
As a Machinist, you will:
Set up and operate machines for machining pieces at unusual or compound angles. Determine proper gear train and gear ratios to produce specific pitch, lead, and pitch diameter for various standard and nonstandard screw threads, make the necessary computations for differential, compound, and angular indexing.
Independently interpret and translate work orders, drawings, blueprint dimensions, tolerances, receives in house manufactured parts package from the supervisor that includes work request, blueprint and material. Plan the sequence of operations, which may require innovative and original setups, techniques, and tools.
Plan for, sets up, and operate Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) and conventional machines. Make required computations using advanced mathematic formulas. Attain precise dimensions through in-place machining of fixtures and multiple setups.
Based on general instructions, blueprints, or drawings, the incumbent disassemble, install, overhaul, repair, and manufacturer parts and items for coining presses, blanking presses, upset mills, annealing furnaces, other production and support equipment that often requires the use of conventional machine tools or the use of specialized machine tools.
