This position serves as a Park Ranger for BLM, Wenatchee Field Office, and is responsible for conducting work in the conservation and use of Federal park resources such as park conservation; natural, historical, and/or cultural resource management; and the development and operations of interpretive and recreational programs for the benefit of the visiting public.

Duties

As the Park Ranger in this position, you will: In this position, the employee will perform tasks for which established precedents are not fully applicable, requiring an in-depth knowledge of program areas such as enforcement or natural and historical information interpretation and development. The ranger will apply a thorough, specific knowledge of agency policies, objectives, and operating methods related to the functional area(s) of assignments, and a good general knowledge of agency policies, objectives, and operating methods as they relate to the total activities of the park. Work at this level may also involve developmental assignments. Such assignments 1 are typically in connection with an intensive training/rotational program. The GS-07 Park Ranger will perform or assist in the performance of any or all of the following or similar duties: Presents a positive image of the area and of the BLM; ensuring visitor contact is conducted in a courteous, professional, and friendly manner. Acts as liaison with community organizations and interest groups in order to: (a) provide orientation to park programs and services; (b) stimulate interest in such programs and services; and (c) discover ways to facilitate visitation to and use of the park's recreational and educational facilities. Coordinates projects identified in the annual work plan; including planning, designing, surveying, construction, and maintenance of trails, campsites, etc., as required. Oversees fee collection activities, maintaining records on and accounting for funds, and submitting deposits. Assists in managing the Special Recreation Permits (SRPs) program; including issuance of permits, permit renewals, monitoring of permitted uses, collection of fees, permit compliance, and data entry; handling suspected SRP violations.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education as listed below: Specialized Experience: Have one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing at least 4 of the following: (1) Conducting archeological or historical preservation work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; (2) Conducting surveys to locate or collect various types of information, such as soil erosion, deer transects, and/or water or air quality; (3) Carrying-out resource management or protection work, such as evaluation of resource conditions, or enforcement of use requirements; (4) Obtaining cooperation and identifying/resolving problems or apparent violations of regulations related to the use of protected or public land areas; and (5) Utilizing computer hardware/software packages such as Microsoft Office products to retrieve, input, and manipulate data to run reports. OR Superior Academic Achievement (SAA)): Have completed a bachelor's degree in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources; AND meets eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) provision. S.A.A. is based on (1) Class standing-applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class, based on completed courses; or (2) Grade-Point Average-applicants must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (3) Election to membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society - membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision. Grade-point averages are to be rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.95 will round to 3.0 and 2.94 will round to 2.9. OR Education: Have completed one (1) full academic year of graduate level education with major study in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. One year of graduate education is the number of credit hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) is considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study. OR Combination of Education/Experience: Have a combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. Note: This will be calculated using your resume and official or unofficial transcripts submitted with your application. TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. (Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.
