This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Cheyenne River Agency, Superintendent - Cheyenne River Agency, Deputy Program Manager - Trust Services, Forestry, in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. ANY RELOCATION EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH REPORTING FOR DUTY WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED EMPLOYEE.

Duties

Provide technical support and assistance in the area of range, natural resources, range improvement and other special projects. Collect, compile and record field data related to compliance with range unit permits. Assist Rangeland Management Specialist in gathering data to be used in determining carrying capacities on the range units, makes written reports to the files. Operate a variety of equipment to complete range improvement projects. Inspect and perform repair work on water facilities and equipment; monitor and maintain water sources storage tanks, pipelines and troughs. Assists in GPS mapping and identifies, maps, and treats Noxious Weed infestation.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Technical and Medical Support Positions, and Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0455: Range Technician Series). GS-5: One (1) year of full-time specialized experience or the equivalent, comparable to at least the GS-4 in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector) which involve monitoring range use conducting distribution and utilization studies, develop and maintain range improvements and investigates reports of trespass; assist in determining land status and pursues needed clearances for ownership approval and environmental analysis. OR EDUCATION: Four (4) years of successfully completed education above the high school level leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown below for GS-4. No more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable. SEASONAL EXPERIENCE: A season of experience is considered to be a period of no less than 3 months of continuous employment on a seasonal basis. Shorter periods may be combined to make a season, provided a total of at least 3 months' experience is shown. For any period where the work exceeded 3 months, the excess work is credited towards an additional season of experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience which has provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully function in the position. Possession of the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities can be evidenced by: *Work in the conservation, regulation, and use of public or federally controlled lands for grazing. *Range research activities. *Work in the operation of a livestock ranch or in assisting in the management or preservation of lands comparable to the public range. *Range or forest fire control, prevention, or suppression work. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). Additional selections may be made from this announcement if identical vacancies occur in the same location within 90 days from the closing date.

Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must send a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript in order to receive credit for that education which shows the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
