This position is a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-8, working in Angleton, Texas, for the Texas Midcoast Refuges Complex. This position is also open to the public under announcement R2-24-12232384-CL-DE. Duties

As a Maintenance Worker, your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: Operate and maintain heavy motorized equipment (e.g., front-end loader, forklift, dump truck, farm agricultural tractor and implements, rubber-tired backhoe/loader, skid steer, excavator, bulldozer, road grader) and other pieces of equipment as needed for project activities. Clean, replace, or make minor adjustment to such parts as fuel, electrical, brakes, steering, regulators, water/fuel pumps, carburetors, cooling systems or attachments to vehicles or heavy equipment. Apply knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles, and familiarity with trade practices to disassemble, repair, reassemble, or test electrical equipment and components (e.g., fixtures, wiring, switches, circuit breakers, fuses, relays, outlets, etc.). Operate power tools, including: handsaws, power saws, power planers, plumb bobs, mercury gauges, dividers, closet augers, hydrostatic pumps, lead pots, pipe threaders and cutters, soldering irons, electrical circuit testing equipment and gas and electrical welders. Check flow output in irrigation or water transportation systems, adjusting valves as needed to ensure proper distribution of water, quantity of water needed, delivered, or the duration of delivery.

Qualifications

By the closing date of this announcement, you must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Handbook X118C, Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupation. http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/x-118c/ Although no specific amount of experience, education or training is required, applicants must meet a minimum level of ability in relation to the position and the Assessment Questionnaire in order to be rated qualified for consideration. To be qualified candidates must meet any screen out element(s) listed at an "acceptable" level and must achieve an average rating of at least "acceptable" on all of the elements. Only education, training, or experience acquired before the closing date will be considered. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements. The screen out element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF MAINTENANCE MECHANIC WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION Operation of Motor Vehicles Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
