The position is located in the Office of the Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, (E) in the Office of the Secretary, U.S. Department of State, located in Washington D.C.  You will serve as a Staff Assistant, responsible for coordinating and assisting in the accomplishment of administrative and managerial operational support.  

Duties

Provides expertise as well as administrative and managerial support for the Under Secretary and the Chief of Staff. Responsible for prioritizing and arranging meetings and events and ensuring papers are tasked appropriately and in a timely manner. Develops plans and strategies for internal integration of day-to-day projects, actions, and activities, as well as long-range objectives, covering a broad range of often sensitive and high-profile topics pertinent to the E mission. Plans, organizes, and leads the development and implementation of Bureau standard operating procedures and training of new personnel. Undertakes special projects as assigned by the Chief of Staff requiring a high degree of tact and diplomacy. Ensures efficient dissemination and timely flow of correspondence, actions, guidance, policy, information, and good communication between the E Front Office and other offices within the Department of State. Ensures memoranda and other correspondence for signature, information, approval, or clearance that come to the Front Office are directed through appropriate channels and that E staff and others are made aware of decisions.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Incumbent will be subject to random drug testing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all the required qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement.  NOTE: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements, by the closing date of this announcement. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5CFR 300, Subpart F. Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience managing all administrative activities for an organization.   Experience analyzing, evaluating and developing administrative policies and processes.     Experience routing and managing the paper flow between offices. Experience drafting briefings, action memorandums and reviewing documents for grammatical errors. There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.
