This position is located in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Salisbury VA Medical Center (VAMC), in North Carolina. The position serves as the Laborer in Facilities Management Services under the direct supervision of the Grounds Foreman.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Loading and unloading trucks; digging ditches; picking up trash, paper and cigarette butts from grounds, loading dock areas and work areas; raking leaves, pulling weeds, cleaning smoking areas, weed eating; blowing off entrances, sidewalks, pressure washing; and watering grass
Operates a Toro workman like equipment; collecting containers of contaminated waste from various storage locations daily. Operates Toro Workman for general transportation of self and other laborers to and from various duty sites and to collect trash from various areas throughout the station
Performs normal user preservation on Toro including fueling, washing, checking oil, fluid levels, and tire pressures
Operates powered equipment including turf sweeper for leaf removal and a ride-on powered vacuum used to pick up trash
Uses backpack and push type blower to clean streets, sidewalks, and roof areas.
Operating specialized equipment to maintain grounds, especially in areas that require constant attention.
Verifies patterns for grounds; assist with designing, laying sod, planting flowers, or shrubs, as allowed and requested by management
Removes snow and ice from walks, steps, and parking areas with snow removal equipment of hand shoveling when required; Applies sand or ice melting materials to areas using hand or push-typing spreaders
Operates other equipment including high pressure (3200 psi) washer to clean smoking shelters, entrances, buildings, equipment and other various areas. Occasionally operates electric and pneumatic jackhammers to remove concrete pads, floors, and sidewalks. Removes debris from grounds using wheelbarrows or carts
Move furniture and office equipment as necessary to accomplish work.
Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 6:00am to 2:30pm
