About the Position: This is a planned management action for the Vicksburg Safety and Occupational Health Office located at Vicksburg USACE. Consideration will be given to current command employees and Army employees with competitive status.
Duties
Plan, organize, and/or coordinate medical surveillance program for the District SOHO and under the direction of the Chief of Safety determines planned levels of service, programs, and/or anticipated problems.
Develop and/or manage the hearing conservation program, respiratory program and automatic external defibrillator (AED) program.
Promote health related cooperation between supervisors, employees, and the District Safety and Occupational Health Office (SOHO).
Develop and/or manage the organization’s health and wellness program.
Gather data supplied by medical clinics, laboratories, safety specialists and/or industrial Hygiene surveys and incorporates it into the program.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The incumbent must possess and maintain a current, valid, active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS)/Basic Certified Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within six months of appointment and maintain certification.
- Must obtain CPR instructor training certification within one year of appointment and maintain certification.
- A medical/physical exam is required. Must be screened for applicable immunizations based on occupational risk and subject to receiving missing/required immunizations in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, and/or DA Form 7412 “Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- This position is subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing IAW EP-600-1-3.
- Must have and maintain a valid state driver’s license.

Basic Requirement for Nurse:
Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).
Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
EXEMPTION: You are exempt from the qualification requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet one of the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) from a professional nursing program.
Specialized Experience GS-12:
Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes: Developing and managing an organization's medical surveillance program; Identifying and/or monitoring potential safety risks, hazards and/or exposures to employees; and Executing corrective actions, referrals, and/or consultations. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
