The Health Technician for Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Services (PMRS) works within the Malcom Randall Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center and provides logistical and administrative support for special programming within the rehabilitation services department. The incumbent must possess the knowledge of scheduling guidelines, myhealthyvet technology, supply, and logistical processes, as it supports PMRS physician staff during diagnosis and treatment of patients.
Duties
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Administering pre-evaluation screen and outcome measures prior to staff evaluation.
Providing administrative support to the PMRS programming. For example, support Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (m TBI) program by administering and assisting in the collection of data from standardized testing.
Providing audio visual assistance to rehabilitation programming, such as assisting with telehealth appointments.
Assisting in the logistical organization of PMRS and service line as assigned. Examples include TBI clinics, EMG, Injections, rehabilitation clinics such as power mobility or amputee.
Serving as the POC for issues related to My Healthy Vet programming and monitor clinical response team to patient requests via secure messaging.
Utilizing computer based electronic patient medical records, managing communication and correspondences related to patient medical records requests from community providers and care delivery communications from within the PMRS.
Maintaining general care of all equipment utilized in the assigned PMRS clinics, keeping examination & procedure rooms clean and stocked.
Performing other duties as assigned in support of clinical staff in PMRS.
Assisting PMRS providers in the ordering and maintenance of supplies and equipment in department.
Assisting PMRS providers in the proper routing of clinic patients.
May assist PMRS providers in organizing the clinic schedule. May help facilitate the re-scheduling of patients who cancelled or missed appointments as directed.
Returning patient inquiries, addressing patient requests and concerns (In person, phone calls, myhealthyvet messages) and documenting in the computerized patient record system.
The incumbent is to be kept abreast of new techniques, equipment and procedures used in the PMRS clinic as assigned.
Performing other duties as assigned in support of clinical staff in physical and occupational therapy.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying supplies and equipment and other items. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The work may require assistance in moving or in lifting wheelchair patients.

Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirements(IOR): All applicants for this position must meet the specialized experience IOR. Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
AND;
GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:
Performing reception duties by assisting visitors to the office.
Using a computer to perform administrative duties.
Performing simple treatment procedures such as changing sterile dressings and applying slings or bandages.
Taking and recording vital signs.
Setting up patient examination rooms while adhering to infection control procedures.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.
