Duties
Plans, constructs, and repairs a variety of supply, shipping, and storage containers and similar items
Based on complex construction plans and rough sketches, builds and constructs odd shaped items used for shipping, storage, supply, bracing, etc.
Selects containers, protective devices, cushioning materials, methods, and techniques needed for packing a variety of tools, parts, equipment, and other items
Custom packs various items that cannot be made to fit into containers of standard size
Operates a variety of power tools

- Must complete and maintain Defense Hazardous Material Certification for transportation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license/certification to operate government vehicles.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain licenses and/or certifications required by the installation, federal, state, and local laws.
Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is:
Ability to do the work of a Wood Worker without more than normal supervision (SOE): Perform the common tasks of the job to be filled but under close supervision, such as follow basic blueprints to construct and assemble various types of shipping and storage containers and protective bracing and framing supports; select proper fasteners for routine work requirements such as the correct size and type of nails, bolts, and metal braces; perform repetitive and routine work sequences involving preparing, constructing, and assembling standard containers, material handling devices, and assemblies requiring limited measuring, cutting, and joining; requires assistance to do more than routine tasks.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Position requires working on hard surfaces indoors and outdoors. Requires prolonged standing, stooping, bending and working tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries parts, equipment and packed containers that weigh up to fifty pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work inside is accomplished in areas well lighted, heated and ventilated. Work outside is accomplished in areas that are drafty and poorly lighted. Exposure to wind, excessive heat, cold temperatures, and noise. Possible injuries from cut, abrasions and splinters from lumber, spiking, nailing and other work. Exposure to hazardous materials with potential injuries from acid burns or harmful fumes. To aid in preventing such injuries, steel-toed shoes, earplugs, safety glasses and goggles are required while performing specific functions. Dust respirators, coveralls and gloves are available upon request or requirement.
