Duties
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for directly and independently, assisting professional and administrative staff by providing a wide variety of technical and secretarial services. Typical work assignments will include:
Receives visitors and answers telephones
Controls access to the office, ensuring visitors are properly cleared and authorized entry
Refers callers and visitors to appropriate staff members or other outside organizations
Maintains telephone system, address lists, recording and activating off duty messages as required
Establishes and maintains files in accordance with document and record retention schedules
Organizes files and records for disposition or transfer in accordance with established procedures
Maintains calendars and tracks action items, informing staff of pending dates, deadlines, and for conferences and transportation
Preparing a variety of documents using varied and advanced functions in one or more software programs
Formatting and copy editing of documents, consulting with the document author to resolve questionable material and
Responds to inquiries providing general information regarding office programs;
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.

Qualifications
GS-6: To be eligible at the GS-6 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level.
Specialized experience defined as performing various clerical and administrative duties in support of the organization, performing office automation support using multiple automated programs and software such as databases, spreadsheets, and graphics in support of the clerical and administrative work. Examples of specialized experience may include: answering, placing and screening telephone calls, determines nature of the call or business of the visitor and referring visitors; answering requests for information on routine or procedural matters; protecting the security of confidential information; computer usage in preparing, composing and reviewing correspondence such as letters, memoranda, and presentation; preparing and editing reports and documents, verifying accuracy statements, preparing figures, tables and charts by referring to standard reference materials and consulting with subject matter experts; and establishing and maintaining files and calendars.
To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)
