The West Texas VA Health Care System (WTVAHCS) located in Big Spring Texas is recruiting for a Painter. This position serves primarily as a Painter and Plasterer (sheetrock) and is expanded in scope over the original shop duties to include a wider range of maintenance duties over the previous level of specialization. This position is assigned to the Maintenance and Repair Section in Engineering Service.
Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Determines methods, techniques, devices and materials that are best suited to the surface finish required; for example, glossy finish, grained effect, or a finish that must meet specified thicknesses and levels.
Prepares surfaces by methods such smoothing with pumice and rottenstone, filling, shaping and leveling with metal and synthetic resins, and mixing and applying precoating agents; for example, pickling and alkali compounds.
Prepares coating materials by tinting, toning, matching, blending and mixing in various additives.
Prepares coating materials by tinting, toning, matching, blending and mixing in various additives.
Applies coating materials with any of the accepted trade devices including those designed to give special effects; for example, brushes, rollers, spray guns, and graining devices.
Ensures that the coating finish meetings match, texture, decorative, thickness and level requirements.
Measures, cuts, constructs and installs, repairs and modifies wood, composite and wood substitute items where specific fit and accuracy are within allowable limits to produce a serviceable product.
Applies standard measurements, specifications, and instructions when constructing, installing or repairing items such as frame structures, decking, partitions, shelving, doors, forms, siding and scaffolding.
Work Schedule: Monday though Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
