This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Omaha Field Division Office. This position primary purpose is to support for the collection, storage, retrieval, and dissemination of criminal or non-criminal investigative data, but also extensive responsibility for coordination of work outside the organization and is necessary for successful unit mission accomplishment.

As a Investigative Assistant (OA)your typical work assignments may include: Maintaining administrative control of all investigative cases through the use of an automated case log and status system, and appropriate filing systems. Establishing suspenses, ensures pertinent case information is provided to investigative personnel and advises supervisor of management actions necessary to ensure timely and thorough investigations. Monitoring and recording judicial, non-judicial, and other administrative actions taken against subjects of completed investigations. Analyzing the request to determine the kinds of information sought and the priority of requests according to the exigency of the investigation or as assigned by the supervisor. Independently completes special research requests. Exchanges and develops information, and makes recommendations about inconsistent data, such as proposing validation steps for entering and retrieving information from enforcement case files and program materials to boost the accuracy of program reports. Maintaining contact with investigative personnel concerning oral requests, and dispatches reports. Performing typing and word processing functions for proper distribution of reports.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. Qualification claims will be subject to verification. You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience. To qualify at the GS-06 level: You must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 Federal grade level performing the following duties: 1) Producing routine reports; 2) Summarizing program information; 3) Searching a variety of sources to obtain materials to support program activities; and 4) Performing law enforcement database queries using a variety of computer systems to extract data. To qualify at the GS-07 level: You must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 Federal grade level performing the following duties: 1) Conducting complex and unique law enforcement database searches and queries; 2) Gathering and analyzing data; 3) Preparing various reports related to investigations; 4) Making recommendations based on findings; and 5) Identifying inaccuracies or anomalies in the information gathered. This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) with 3 or fewer errors. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience for this position includes: Competencies: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competencies in the following areas: ClericalCompliance InspectionOral CommunicationTechnology ApplicationWriting Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F).
