DON Pathways Internship Program You will serve as a Student Trainee (Engineering) in the Fleet Readiness Center East. Incumbents will be assigned to various Engineering areas within the facility.

Duties

You will gather pertinent data through methods including, but not limited to, file research, physical data collection, anecdotal information gathering, and print and online literature searching. You will manipulate collected data into usable information for decision making. You will work collaboratively and effectively with the larger workforce (artisans, logisticians, engineers, fleet representatives, manufacturer representatives, and other production support personnel) to solve problems and complete tasks. You will prepare physical calculations to be used in support of engineering decisions. You will develop technical data and compile into usable format for the customer.

Qualifications

ELIGIBILITY: Must be enrolled or have been accepted for enrollment in a bachelor's degree (or more advanced degree) program in Engineering from an accredited or pre-accredited institution. (To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.) *Applications will be accepted from students who expect to complete the qualifying education within 6 months from the date of application. We are required to verify the qualifying education has been successfully completed before any applicant can be appointed (report to work).* To be eligible for the GS-02, you must meet the following required education level: Completion of high school or GED diploma or home-school curriculum approved by a State or local governing body, and accepted into a bachelor's program in Engineering from an accredited or pre-accredited institution. To be eligible for the GS-03, you must meet the following required education level: Completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study in a bachelor's program in Engineering from an accredited or pre-accredited institution. To be eligible for the GS-04, you must meet the following required education level: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree in a bachelor's program in Engineering from an accredited or pre-accredited institution. To be eligible for the GS-05, you must meet the following required education level: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in a bachelor's program in Engineering from an accredited or pre-accredited institution. At the end of the current semester and before start of employment, applicants must possess:
GS-02: Completion of high school or GED diploma or home-school curriculum approved by a State or local governing body, and accepted into a bachelor's program in Engineering from an accredited or pre-accredited institution.
GS-03: Completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study. (30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours)
GS-04: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree. (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours)
GS-05: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours)
