These temporary not to exceed 1039 hours a year positions are located at Cuyahoga Valley National Park in the Maintenance Roads and Grounds. Duties

This position is primarily for the grounds crew. Operating zero-turn mowers, push mowers, weed trimmers, and farm type tractors. Maintains lawns, including mowing, trimming, pruning, raking, and weeding. Water plants and lawns and add fertilizer as needed. Builds and renovates stone pathways, patios, and ledges. Loads and unloads equipment and tools into work vehicles. Drives work vehicles to and from sites. Adheres to all safety precautions. Maintains all landscapes and grounds throughout the park which includes mowing, trimming, blowing leaves, painting picnic tables, planting trees, etc. Working knowledge of the maintenance functions associated with roads, trails, and grounds, such as filling potholes in roads and parking lots, installing drainage structures on trails, and various landscaping tasks. Uses a variety of equipment such as pneumatic tampers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, push and riding mowers, 4-wheel drive trail vehicles, and other various hand and power tools. Operates gasoline and diesel powered vehicles up to 26,000 pounds GVW while pulling trailers. Performs woody-debris removal within the river trail corridor of the Cuyahoga River. Utilizes advanced rigging techniques while working from a paddle boat and/or kayak. Performs "bucking" (cutting a tree into moveable sections), "limbing" (cutting limbs off of a tree), "Felling" (the process of downing individual trees), and "slashing" (cutting tree parts to lay flat on the ground) techniques. Physical Effort: The work performed requires the exertion of moderate to very heavy physical effort. The work involves lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80 to 100 pounds (or more) with assistance. Working Conditions: Outside work is usually performed under all kinds of weather conditions. Indoor work is often accomplished in office buildings or in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas such as warehouses, loading docks, or trade shops. Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust, and dirt and the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, safety glasses, and steel-toe shoes to avoid possible hazards in the work area. AREA INFORMATION - Located in northeastern Ohio, Cuyahoga Valley National Park is situated along 22 miles of the Cuyahoga River Valley between the cities of Akron and Cleveland. The area is predominately natural forest and meadow with some areas of agriculture. Winters are moderately cold with average temperatures in the 20-to-30-degree ranges. heavy snowfall is not unusual. Summers are moderately warm, average temperatures in the high 70's and 80's with occasional warm spells in the 90's. Housing is available in several nearby residential communities. Excellent elementary and high schools, numerous colleges, universities and hospitals are available in the area.
