Duties
The employment periods are listed below but may vary during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.
Denali National Park and Preserve (DENA) - Denali Park, Alaska - Anticipated employment period is May to September.
Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve (GLBA) - Bartlett Cove, Alaska - Anticipated employment period is April to October.
Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve (GLBA) - Yakutat, Alaska - Anticipated employment period is April to October. Apply to Yakutat, Alaska if you are interested in working at Dry Bay, Alaska. Applicants selected for Yakutat will be duty stationed at Dry Bay, AK.
Kenai Fjords National Park (KEFJ) - Seward, Alaska - Anticipated employment period is May to September.
Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park (KLGO) - Skagway, Alaska - Anticipated employment period is April to October.
Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve (WRST) - Glennallen, Alaska - Anticipated employment period is May to September.
As a Maintenance Worker (Trails), you will work primarily on the backcountry and front country trails to assist journeyman level tradesman in all areas of trails maintenance in the park unit. Those duties will include:
Assist in the maintenance and construction of graded and paved trails, trail drainage, trail bridges, and guard rails.
Assist in the installation, repair and replacement of water diversion bars, cribbing and retainer walls.
Remove windfalls, rockslides, surface outcropping and debris from trails.
Build up tread surfaces in eroded areas. Install steppingstones at creek crossings.
Install steppingstones at creek crossings where bridges cannot be constructed.
Safely and effectively use and maintain hand power tools required for the job.
Assist with other duties such as painting, carpentry, janitorial, cleaning, trash pickup, grounds keeping, digging, raking, sweeping, transporting supplies, and removal of snow and ice.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
Ability To Do The Work Of A Maintenance Worker (Trails) Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT)
Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
Use of Measuring Instruments
Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
Knowledge of Materials
