An exciting job opportunity is available to work in the Laboratory of Pathology (LP), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH).
If you have experience working in a clinical or biomedical research laboratory performing the collection, preserving, processing, embedding, cutting and performing a variety of special staining procedures on thin sections of human tissue specimens for microscopic examination, then consider joining the NCI!
Duties
Providing Anatomic Pathology technical support work in the areas of histology, surgical pathology, and autopsy. Performing microtomy, cutting biopsy and surgical samples, and assisting with frozen sections cryomicrotomy.
Performing routine H&E and special histologic staining. Maintaining staining solutions and perform appropriate quality control. Performing stain techniques of tissue and cytological materials.
Identifying and developing corrective actions for quality assurance issues that adversely affect test performance or results.
Performing routine maintenance of tissue processors and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation problems.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications
You qualify at the GS-09 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: cutting biopsy samples, and serial sections without losing tissue; analyzing stain and slide quality to determine if adequate for clinical diagnosis by the pathologist; training others in staining techniques and procedures; identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or results; and preparing chemical reagents used during tissue processing for the preservation of human tissue specimens.;
OR
Completion of a Master's degree in an accredited or pre-accredited college or university that is directly related to histopathology; or Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree;
OR
A combination of education and specialized experience that meets the qualification requirements for this position.
