This position serves as a Supervisory Park Ranger in the division of Interpretation located at Independence National Historical Park. The Supervisory Park Ranger is responsible for the supervision, scheduling, development, delivery and evaluation of formal and informal interpretive programs and visitor services in the park. The incumbent coordinates and manages daily operations of these activities within overall park operations and works on a team with peer GS-0025-11 Supervisory Park Rangers.

You will perform the following duties: Provide a full range of services in the development and execution of complex visitor services and educational programming. Provide leadership in planning and implementing park-wide special events and activities. Integrate program development with park management and other divisions, cooperators, educators, VIPs, community organizations, and others. Perform supervisory/lead functions including assigning, directing, and reviewing the work of subordinate employees from a variety of backgrounds, and with different levels of experience or training; plan, schedule, and coordinate the work of employees according to the division's work plan. Submit staffing and requisition requests and makes recommendations for operating program changes to address visitor demands, conditions, budgets, and other factors. Physical Demands: Work requires a combination of sedentary office work and outdoor field work. Work often involves extensive periods of standing on hard, uneven surfaces outdoors and in historic buildings, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing steep stairs and some moderate lifting, not to exceed 50 lbs. Mental stress and physical fatigue can occur due to the high volume of personal contacts with staff and visitors. Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled office, inside historic buildings, and outdoors year-round. Work requires walking between historic sites in a dynamic urban setting, walking, and standing on uneven terrain and hard surfaces to include cobblestones, brick, marble, and concrete. The incumbent is required to work outside in all types of weather with periods of high heat and humidity in summer and snow, ice, and occasional sub-freezing temperatures in winter. Employee is required to wear the NPS uniform and comply with uniform standards.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/22/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess one full year of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: coordinating, managing or directing interpretive programs; developing long range program plans; developing educational programs; managing interpretive staff or other similar work. Your resume must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work experience. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least three full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education, or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a directly-related field such as natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified above may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in this position. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of an equivalent combination of graduate education and specialized experience: For example, 6 months of the specialized experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and 1.5 years (27 semester hours) of directly related graduate level college study in an accredited institution (50% of the education requirement). Your resume must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work experience. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
