You will serve as a Journeyman Pipefitter in the Construction, Maintenance and Operations Sections of the Facilities Maintenance Service Line at VA Puget Sound Healthcare System, Tacoma, Washington.
Duties
Duties include but not limited to:
Install, modify, and perform maintenance and repair of all plumbing and piping systems both inside and outside of the medical center's buildings (including underground), equipment fixtures, fittings, and safety devices served by these systems.
Pack, adjust, and install valves of various types; repair leaks, and make necessary adjustments for proper system operation.
Operate pipe threading machines, hand tools, core drilling rigs, pumps, rotary hammers and other trade related tools and equipment.
Interpret blueprints and use shop mathematics to layout angles and arcs, determine placement and elevation of piping systems and must be able to determine the appropriate pipe, joint and valve sizes.
Operate such tools and devices as pipe threading tools, cullers, grinders, flaring and brazing equipment, welding and welding tools, micrometers, calipers, templates, various power tools, and hand tools.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30 pm

Physical Requirements:
Physical demands are exhaustive and require considerable lifting of heavy objects up to 50 pounds. Prolonged standing in cramped positions, overhead work, climbing, bending, crawling under buildings and in attics and climbing high ladders to work on overhead systems is also required. Incumbent must be able to be physically cleared to wear a respirator.
Working Conditions:
The working conditions vary with the environment. It may be inside or outside, and is usually dirty, dusty, greasy, and may be in inclement weather. The incumbent may be assigned to work in areas where certain potentially harmful physical and/or chemical agents are present such as in the research labs. To ensure employee safety and health, personnel protection programs are maintained. These programs may include engineering controls, training, work procedures, use of personal protective equipment, and medical surveillance. As part of the medical surveillance programs, the incumbent may be required to take medical examinations to assess his/her medical qualification for duty.
