Duties

You will use various types of insulating materials such as cork, asbestos, magnesium and spun glass in sheet form, molded form, blocks or pads. You will cover boilers, pipes, tanks, refrigeraton units and other objects with insulating materials to reduce heat loss or absorption, prevent moisture condensation and deaden sound. You will mix loose mateials into cement or plaster form for application ny trowel. You will cut out irregular shapes of insulation got valves, fittings, flanges and similar parts, securing insulation in place with wire, metal straps or special twine. You will abate insulation materials that may contain asbestos. You will prepare removable or replaceable sections of insulation for valves or similar fittings to which access must be provided, by measuring connections, making paper patters as necessary, curring material and sewing parts together. You will inspect confied spaces and issu permits as required for personnel to endt confined spaces.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You are required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You must be able to obtain a SCDHEC license for asbestos abatement worker and asbestos building inspection within prescribed timelines.
  • You must be able to obtain necessary certification to perform duties as a Gas Free Engineer in order to issue permits for personnel to enter permit required confined spaces.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
