This position is located with Agricultural Research Service, Midwest Area, Columbia, Missouri. In this position you will prunes trees, shrubs and other perennial plants and shrubs; loads/unloads materials, supplies, packages, equipment, fills holes and levels bumps in land using shovels, hand tamper and rake; and shovels snow when needed. This is a term, time-limited appointment with an initial duration no less than 13 months and can be extended up to a total of 4 years.

Duties

Cleans and waxes floors in building and offices using vacuum cleaner and other assorted cleaning and janitorial tools. Replaces light bulbs. The incumbent prunes trees, shrubs and other perennial plants and shrubs. Fills holes and levels bumps in land using shovels, hand tamper and rake; and shovels snow when needed.

Requirements

• Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

Physical Effort: The work involves light physical effort: using vacuum cleaners and dry mops; running lightweight powered scrubbers and buffers: continuously standing, bending, stooping and reaching; lifting and emptying waste baskets; pushing carts loaded with wastepaper; and occasionally lifting and carrying items up to 20 pounds. Working Conditions: The work will often be performed outdoors involving exposure to extreme temperature Indoor work may involve exposure to dirt, dust, disagreeable odors and chemicals. The employee may be exposed to the possibility of minor injuries (cuts, bruises, etc.)
