THIS IS AN ARMY NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a TITLE 32 SHEET METAL MECHANIC (MI AASF 2), Position Description Number D0633000 and is part of the MI AASF 2, Michigan Army National Guard.

Duties

***THIS IS A TITLE 32 NATIONAL GUARD POSITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP*** This position is located in the Component Repair Shop of an Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF).Its purpose is to perform sheet metal maintenance on aircraft and components. Additionally, the incumbent will maintain, troubleshoot, repair, modify and test aircraft engines. 1. Inspects and troubleshoots aircraft structures such as fuselage, tail, wings, cowlings and stabilizers. 2. Repairs cracks in aircraft skin. Fabricates and fits patches to damaged areas as necessary to retain or restore original strength. 3. Sets up, operates and maintains power shears, metal brakes. rolls, dimpling machines, drills, saws, heat treating furnaces, hardness testers, arc and oxyacetylene welders, and other metalworking equipment and tools of the trade. 4. Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctioning engines to Determine degree of disassembly, repair, modification, and adjustment needed. 5. Performs periodic and special inspections on engines. Inspects installed, repaired and modified engines and components to ensure compliance with technical publications. Interprets inspection findings to determine adequacy of repairs, modification, or corrective actions. 6. Performs engine trim in accordance with applicable directives. 7. Records and maintains maintenance actions and test data on appropriate forms. 8. May assist in other functions within the Component Repair Shop in the accomplishment of mission requirements. 9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Michigan Army National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the Michigan Army National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Michigan Army National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E3 - E6 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Minimum Time Required - 18 Months Experience or training in planning, layout, and construction skills to manufacture items and systems with dovetailed seams, set-in-bottom seams, burred-bottom seams, or wired or lock seams. Experience using more complicated shop tools and equipment. Experience in using metals including stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb material and alloys. Experience demonstrating the use of more complicated mathematical calculations and complicated measuring instruments.
