The primary purpose of this position is to provide a wide variety of specialized clerical and office automation support for the Child Development Centers to included but not limited to file maintenance, reservations, receiving calls, greeting customers, handling funds, ensuring children are signed in and out of the center properly, fee collection, and others.
Duties
Computes, collects and records fees and charges for Child Development Center program participants.
Maintains a wide variety of recurring and nonrecurring correspondence, records and other documents.
Receives and directs callers or visitors.
Monitors and manages the reception area.

- This position has been identified as having “regular contact with children”.(IAW) Public Law 101-647 Section 231, an FBI fingerprint and State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) Check will be completed on any person selected for this position.
- Incumbent may be required to work in an uncommon tour of duty, including nights and weekends.
- Incumbent must complete additional training requirements within specific time lines (to include AF modules, medication dispensing, observation of symptoms of illness, security, safety, anti-robbery, lifting, including CPR and First Aid.
- Physical examination with required immunizations and tuberculosis test for child care programs.
- A driver’s license is required. (NOT for transporting children).
- Skills of a fully qualified typist are required. The incumbent must have the ability to type a minimum of 40 WPM.
- This is a Non-Sensitive position. Must successfully complete an SF-85 background investigation.
- Travel and relocation expenses will NOT be paid.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes work which has provided knowledge of child development programs and procedures; performing a full range of customer service assignments that occur in the normal child development center and ability to resolve recurring problems; performing a variety of routine clerical work in office, business or fiscal operations which includes filing, answering telephones, receiving visitors, and processing mail; compiling, consolidating and finalizing information from system files for various reports; using personal computers, office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to create reports, prepare routine correspondence, maintain files/ records, complete time and attendance, and support office operations.

EDUCATION: I have successfully completed four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: I have a combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of Child Development Center programs, procedures and regulations pertaining to the child care center operation to perform or explain a range of procedures and requirements in support of the CDC operations.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using tact and courtesy.
Knowledge of filing systems and procedures and the subject matter content of materials being processed covering the activities of the Child Development Center.
Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents such as letters, reports and spreadsheets.
Knowledge of cash handling techniques and procedures.
Ability to plan, organize work and meet deadlines.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
