The position serves as a Budget Technician within the VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS), Office of Research and Development (ORD). The position works with the Administrative Officer (AO), Budget Analyst, Fiscal Service, and other research staff to ensure research funding is handled appropriately and in accordance with all VHA and Federal regulations.

Major Duties:
Enters obligated funds data for contracts, agreements, Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) requests, etc. into VISTA.
Uses program funds to purchase organization supplies, services, lab equipment, etc.
Works with Budget Analyst and Administrative Officer to assist with answering funds status, inquires for organizational staff.
Verifies accuracy of budget system data.
Liaisons with fiscal service when corrections to data and/or it's location as needed.
Qualifications
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as processes budgetary transactions, balances accounts, verifies data and dollar amounts; liaisons with budget personnel for needed corrections; compiles and summarizes information from financial records for requested reports; enters obligations into financial systems; and uses organizational purchase card to acquisition supplies and equipment for the organization
NOTE: Graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position (Budget Technician). Physical Requirements: Work is sedentary, being performed for the most part while seated comfortably at a desk or table, in a well lighted and ventilated office setting. Standing, walking and visitation to other buildings with-in the facility is required. Required to pickup mail and packages from the on-site warehouse/mailroom. No special safety precautions are required while completing work.
