This position is part of the Fiscal Operations at the VA Medical Center in Buffalo, New York. The Accounting Technician receives, controls, monitors, validates, records, analyzes, and reports on accounting transactions that affect the assets, cost, liabilities, revenue, and proprietary accounts of programs serviced; supports budget, accounting, auditing, payroll, fiscal, and financial management functions; and supports budget administration, financial systems, payroll, and cash processing.
Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include:
Analyzes, codes, and processes all types of accounting transactions involving various types of funds
Ensures the accuracy and completeness of information provided in accordance with regulatory requirements
Balances and reconciles reports, statements, summaries, and trial balances
Reviews purchase orders, contracts, travel orders, and other claims against obligated funds and enters data into accounting systems
Reconciles and reviews all transaction accounting classifications
Analyzes accounting reports, records, supporting documents and initiates required adjustment actions
Provides financial statements by abstracting data from a variety of source documents
Serves as alternate agent cashier and performs a board range of cash receipt and disbursing duties
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-6 grade level, you must have: At least one full year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service (GS-5), that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of an Accounting Technician. Specialized experience is experience where you were responsible for maintaining financial accounts and verifying accuracy of data; coordinating all financial activities including cash processing, disbursements, bank deposits, receipts, reconciling errors, discrepancies, non-standard transactions, etc.; experience that has provided an understanding of basic accounting practices, polices and principles.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates.
