The primary purpose of this position is to perform "shift operator" duties to operate and control a large number of utility and building environmental systems (on a seven day a week, 24 hour a day operation) through computerized control equipment.
Duties
- On 24 hour seven days a week basis (three shifts) operation, monitors the Operational Management and Control System (OMCS) consoles for the 50th Space Wing to include the Consolidated Space Operations Center and the Joint National Intergration Center.
- Performs computer operator duties for OMCS and subsystems.
- Performs dudes of a Service Call Specialist during off-duty hours-of the Service Call Unit in accordance with provisions of Air Force directives and local supplementations.
- Utilizes safety practices, rules, regulations, and procedures to maintain a safe and clean work environment.

- May be required to participate in a certification program for Utility Systems Operator.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5400 Industrial Equipment Operation Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a UTILITY SYSTEMS OPERATOR without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Ability to troubleshoot a multitude of systems such as air conditioning, electrical, heating, plumbing. etc., to make adjustments through a CRT terminal.
2. Ability to interpret instructions, blueprints, engineer drawings, schematics, specification, etc.
3. Knowledge of safety rules and regulations. Ability to make highly technical decisions regarding operational capacities, efficiency, load shedding, etc.
4. Knowledge of equipment used to read different types of gauges and instruments.
5. Ability to operate a CRT terminal. Knowledge of computer operation.
6. Ability to work under stress. Knowledge of building construction and base utility systems sufficient enough to advise craftsmen and/or foreman of equipment/tools needed for emergency repairs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is primarily sedentary with a typical office setting. However, moderate lifting (15-44 lbs.); ability to distinguish basic colors; eye and band coordination to operate. controls of computer console keyboard; prolonged sitting; some walking, standing, and stooping; and working under stress are also required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Primarily works inside in well-lighted, comfor1abJc work area typical of an office setting. Incumbent quite often works alone.
