About the Position: Provides law enforcement, security and crime prevention at the school system. Work with school administrators to create a safe environment for students/staff. Advise administrators on security matters, attend calls, investigate incidents, interview juveniles, and issue Juvenile Complaint and Referral's to offenders.
Duties
Serve as a police officer (School Resource Officer) and sentry, providing surveillance for assigned school area.
Perform law enforcement duties at public school facilities to include assurance of proper identification of all pedestrians or motor traffic and/or clearing visitors.
Perform random safety inspections within school perimeter to ensure the safety of students, teachers and the public.
Patrol school compounds, internal and external, of assigned buildings, immediately responds to alarms and threats, irregularities, and unusual or suspicious circumstances; and investigates the incidents.
Address youth and community groups to deter crime.
Search and apprehend; detect explosives or illegal drugs; perform counterterrorist or counter- violence operations posing a threat to public safety.
Communicate with students one-on-one or in a group setting for performance, conflict resolution and/or disciplinary problems.
Assist the administration/faculty members in emergency crisis planning and developing protocols for handling specific types of emergencies.
Perform other Police Officer duties upon request.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed Secret background investigation.
- Successfully graduate from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshall General.
- Successfully pass required training, certification and qualification related to law enforcement as prescribed by regulations, to include weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
- Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter required to ensure the continued level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the position duties.
- Incumbent must pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
- Position requires incumbent to maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56.
- Position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- Position is "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated practice (1) applying federal, civil, and local laws and regulations; AND (2) demonstrated law enforcement, security and/or crime prevention operations. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in schools, parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
