This position is part of the R2-Arizona Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office.
This is not a remote position.
This position is expected to last up to 6 months in duration.
Duties
Only experience and education obtained by 01/19/2024 will be considered.
As a Student Trainee (Biological Sciences) your duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Works with other technicians and senior Biologists to conduct fish and wildlife and/or plant surveys and monitoring.
Assists with performing or reviewing biological studies for determining the manner and extent to which fish, wildlife and plant populations may be affected by development or contamination and conservation activities.
Assists in the review of projects submitted for ESA section 7 consultation.
Assists with invasive species removal projects, recording and submitting accomplishment data on the process of technical assistance and habitat restoration activities.
Uses a variety of databases and reporting systems to store, compile, and analyze data from monitoring and studies.
Works with other technicians and senior biologists to help maintain the outreach and volunteer program. Assists senior staff with providing tours, speaking to civic organizations and groups, and as directed, maintains public use and educational facilities.
Develops reports and other materials.

To be eligible for a Pathways Program internship program, you must meet the following requirements:
You must be a student accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a degree or certificate program on at least a half-time basis and in good standing who will be continuing education into the next semester or have received a notice of acceptance for enrollment. Pathways Student Intern: The Department of the Interior Internship Program (Pathways) is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school.
Special Provisions for Interns with Previous Related Education or Experience: Previous education and/or experience may be evaluated to determine the highest grade level for which the individual is qualified.
Current students in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.

In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification.
Basic Requirement:
A student enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited institution of higher education, and pursuing a bachelor's, or graduate degree in a discipline/academic program related to the position on at least a part-time basis.

Minimum Qualification [GS-05]
Completed 4 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree (four years of full-time academic study is defined as 120 semester hours, 180 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university) in a discipline/academic program related to the position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
PROOF OF EDUCATION: All applicants who are using education or a combination of education and experience to qualify must submit copies of official or unofficial transcripts which include grades, credit hours earned, major(s), grade point average or class ranking, institution name, and student name. If any required coursework is not easily recognizable on transcripts, or if you believe a portion of a particular course can be credited toward meeting an educational requirement, you must also provide a memorandum on letterhead from the institution's registrar, dean, or other appropriate official stating the percentage of the course that should be considered to meet the requirement and the equivalent number of units. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable; however, if you are selected for the position, you will be required to produce the original official transcripts.
PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.
GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education.
