About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Garrison Redstone Arsenal, Directorate of Emergency Services, Police/Provost Marshall Division.

Duties

Conduct vehicle searches/inspections in accordance with standing operating procedures. Inspects containers, personal property documents on private property, and commercial and government vehicles. Screen Employees, visitors, and contractor personnel for visitor access on military installations. When required, make independent decisions regarding the use of deadly force, operate active vehicle barriers and alert appropriate official of apparent security violation. Conduct traffic stops at the Installation Access Control Points for safety and security checks. Controls, prepares, issues identification badges, cars, and passes that allow access of civilian, military, contractor personnel and visitor on the installation. Respond to telephone and in-person inquiries, by providing guidance and information on security regulations and procedures.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility for a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program.
  • In Accordance with Army Regulation 600-85, a DA Form 5019R Condition of Employment must be assigned for mandatory drug testing. Individual agrees to submit to a urinalysis on a recurring basis.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete CPR certification and First Aid training.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent will be required to pass entry level and annual re-certification of standard Army physical fitness/agility test.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Loss of license may result in removal from position.
  • Must wear the Department of Army Security Guard uniform and maintain a high standard of appearance and hygiene.
  • Must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability. Duties and training will require carrying/deployment of riot baton, non-lethal ammunition and carrying of a protective shield.
  • Must meet the requirements of the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) installation access control, 2) safeguarding personnel, information and critical assets, and 3) recording visitor information and determining whether appropriate authorization for access exists. Experience can be with a federal, state, municipal, local or private protective organization and must utilize knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.
