This position is part of the Office of Science - Headquarters, Department of Energy. As a Government Information Specialist, you will serve as the Freedom of Information/Privacy Act (FOIA/PA) and Technical Information Specialist for the Office of Science, Chicago Office (SC-CH).

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS GS-9: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-7 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting all of the following: Assisting with providing guidance on the disposition and scheduling of government records. Communicating technical information with internal and external customers. OR Master's or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED. OR You may qualify on a combination of education and experience. The total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education more than the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS GS-11: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-9 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting all of the following: Conducting research on the laws, rules, and legal precedents pertaining to government records. Utilizing the Freedom of Information Act guidelines to ascertain the official stance of the organization about the disclosure, withholding, or partial disclosure of records. Assisting with drafting written responses to the Freedom of Information/Privacy Act requests after they have been approved by the relevant office and legal counsel. OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED. OR You may qualify on a combination of education and experience. The total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education more than the first 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration. CTAP/ICTAP candidates: To be considered "well qualified" you must (1) meet all of the requirements as described in this section; and 2) be rated "well-qualified", which is defined as having a score of 85 or better. You must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
