About the Position: This is a Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/ Forklift Operator), WG-6907-06 position with the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research Logistics warehouse.

Duties

Serves as a Materials Handler with responsibility for the independent accomplishment of a complete warehousing operation involving one or a variety of warehousing functions. Assists the warehouse supervisor in developing new storage plans and space utilization to ensure the effective storage, retrieval, and protection of materials received, in accordance with agency procedures. Responsible for controlled substances, and sensitive items, and utilizes lock areas within the warehouse including vaults. Performs Materials Handler work including the receipt, storage, issue/distribution and inventory of expendable medical and non-medical supplies and equipment. Operates a motor vehicle in the performance of warehousing tasks in order to deliver supplies to customer, and or locations as required.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a Pre-Appointment Physical.
  • A favorable Secret Security Clearance is required for this position.
  • Incumbent will be required to obtain/and/or maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain forklift operator license.
  • Position designated as mission essential.
  • Position requires shift work including evenings, nights, weekends and/or holidays.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/Forklift Operator)~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Materials Handler (Forklift Operator/Motor Vehicle Operator) duties such as receiving supply, tallying stock, assuming custodial duties of property, planning item location based on description, preparing deliveries, reporting package defects, operating forklift trucks, entering in data into supply automated systems, and conducting final loading for delivery in accordance with procedures. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.Dexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires active physical effort including considerable walking, standing on concrete floor, pushing, bending, and stooping. Normally lifts and carries items weighing over 45 pounds. Assistance is generally required when lifting items weighing over 60 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside the warehouse, in vaults, bin rooms, in open storage areas, and on receiving or shipping docks. The areas may be cold, drafty, damp, or hot. Works in close quarters in warehouse or bin aisles, on ramps or platforms. Exposed to injury from falling stock, from handling broken glassware, and some danger of contact with acids, toxic materials, or noxious fumes. Cuts, bruises, and broken bones may result from shifting loads, toppling stacks, forklift overturning, or accidents with other moving equipment. Is required to wear/use protective clothing and equipment in accordance with established safety requirements.
