This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties
Conduct preliminary investigations utilizing a MWD to search out illegal narcotics, explosive devices, and apprehend and take into custody suspected violators associated with any crime that may have been committed.
Perform advanced on/off leash obedience, controlled aggression, safely utilizing canine in congested areas; implements plans for search procedures of the entire installation as required for canine handling.
Enforce the laws of the United States, the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), and applicable local regulations involving persons and property.
Operate the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal in accordance with federal and state laws to transcribe data.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
- Successfully graduated from the Department of Defense, Military Working Dog Handler Course or complete within one year of hire date.
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass qualification requirements related to LE and MWD work functions as prescribed by policy. These include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and NIMS training requirements.
- Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56, successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation.
- Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56, pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
- Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56, comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
- Periodic random drug testing requirements is mandatory prior to being placed into this position. Individuals not currently occupying a DoD TDP position must successfully complete a pre-appointment drug test prior to being placed into this position.
- The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
- Incumbent must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Incumbent must be able obtain and maintain a valid Tier 2 (Secret) security investigation.
- Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- Designated Mission Essential Position: Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations as directed by the Commander.

Specialized Experience: Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service which includes the following. Interviewing witnesses, investigating crimes, and securing a crime scene; responding to emergency situations; gathering information and preparing reports; also utilizing police methods and techniques to perform routine patrol, traffic accident investigations, and traffic control. The OPM Qualification Standard states experience must have provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property.
