These positions are located in the Division of Interpretation at the following parks. Lake Mead National Recreation Area Lassen Volcanic National Park Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve and Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument Open to the first 101 applicants or until 01/19/2024 whichever comes first. Duties

As a Supervisory Park Ranger (Interpretation) key duties will include: Supervision -- leads and motivates staff. Program Management -- provides direction, review, planning, execution, and coordination of all park programs associated with interpretation, education, and outreach programs. Partner Liaison -- Builds and strengthens partnerships with other educational organizations/agencies. Interpretation -- technically competent developing and delivering interpretive programs in line with agency best practices. Position at Lassen National Volcanic Park also serves as the park's Public Information Officer Lake Mead National Recreation Area: Physical Demands: Physical demands vary from mostly sedentary office work to strenuous outdoor activity, such as hiking in rugged mountain terrain. Many field areas are remote and physical ability to travel on foot, operate four-wheel drive vehicles over rough terrain, travel in and/or operate boats, travel in light aircraft, or travel in similar conveyances is necessary. Other physical demands include walking, bending, climbing, stooping, and lifting or carrying of weights up to 50 pounds when required on visits to field sites. Some activities occur in physically dangerous areas or settings. Public information and management duties may be sedentary, which entails the ability to concentrate and write for long periods of time. Mentally stressful and taxing situations are frequently present. Work Environment: Most work is performed in an office environment, but some work is done in an outdoors work environment, with frequent trips to visitor contact stations (including the visitor center}, campgrounds, or other park offices and community. Fieldwork may expose incumbent to temperature extremes, adverse weather conditions, blowing dust, and other natural hazards. Outdoor temperatures vary from below freezing to over 110 degrees F. Modes of travel include vehicle, vessel (boat), and park aircraft. The environment requires normal safety precautions typical of offices, meeting rooms, or vehicles including safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips or falls, observance of fire regulations, and compliance with traffic signals and safe operating procedures for passenger vehicles. Periodic operation of motor vehicles is required and riding in fixed wing aircraft or boats is, on occasion, necessary. Lassen Volcanic National Park: Physical Demands: Many of the demands are of a sedentary nature, but it often requires field activities that involve a fair degree of agility and physical stamina. All of the work is performed at elevations above 5,000 feet. Lifting boxes of publications weighing in excess of fifty pounds is frequently required. Most of the activities are performed in an office atmosphere, but field activities involve walking and hiking over rugged mountainous terrain in all seasons of the year. The employee will need to drive on winding mountain roads and highways during all seasons. In winter deep snow and cold weather may require the use of snowshoes or cross-country skis. Backpacking skills in both summer and winter are helpful. Occasionally in field situations or in emergency operations, the employee is exposed to hazards such as falling, smoke from forest fires, overexposure and over exertions while working at extreme elevations and sometimes under severe weather conditions. Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve and Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument: Physical Demands: Most work is completed at a desk, however assignments regularly involve long periods of standing, bending, and stooping to observe and study work operations. Work Environment: Significant work time is spent in an indoor office setting; however, assignments regularly require visits to field areas and involve risks or discomfort protective clothing and gear, and observance of safety precautions are sometimes required.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/19/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: managing interpretive programs in a park environment, supervising and leading interpretive staff, managing budgets, building partnerships, and demonstrating interpretive competency with scientific and cultural content. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ICTAP/CTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special prior­ity selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies.
