About the Position: This position is located at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, Texas.

Duties
Verify the smears, fluids, and fine needle aspirations submitted for cytologic examination.
Perform and document performance of daily stain line quality control and maintenance.
Orient new staff cytotechnologist to cyto preparatory procedures used in this laboratory.
Operate and maintain of equipment such as centrifuge, ctytocentrifuge, automatic Stainer, automatic converslipper, chemical recycler and Thinprep.
Completed slides are reviewed for quality and accuracy,
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- A pre-placement medical examination may be required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing appropriate equipment and techniques to prepare a variety of cytological specimens, applying correct stain pertaining to slides and the processing of tissue according to established procedures.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
