The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as section small shop chief no more than 25% of the time over journey level mechanics involved in a variety of tasks relative to nondestructive testing of aircraft and components thereon and to train reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein.

Duties

Duties: 1. Performs administrative supervisory duties over the journey level mechanics in the section no more than 25 percent of the time. 2. Conducts industrial radiography (x-ray) tests on aircraft components and parts for which procedures/processes have not been developed. 3. Ultrasonic eddy, current, and magnaflux/zyglo inspection duties. Administers the Spectrometric Oil Analysis Program (SOAP). 4. Utilizes safety practices and procedures and complies with security regulations, directives, and policies. Controls tools. 5. Certifies work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program. Cleans work area and equipment.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3700 - Metal Processing Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1: Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data such as schematic diagrams, blueprints and technical orders relating to the electronics trade. Ability to operate a computer. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work. 2: Skill in the use of standard hand and power tools of the industrial radiology trade. Skill in the selection and use of testing equipment. 3: Knowledge of and ability to use radiology systems, equipment, or accessories. Knowledge of basic shop mathematics or handbook formulae to calculate basic values or specifications. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security. 4: Ability to convert instructions into appropriate computer language(s), as necessary. Ability to use a variety of test and measurement equipment. Ability to calibrate equipment used in the industrial radiology trade. Ability to locate component/part deficiencies and recommend resolution. Ability to follow budgeting directives, instructions, and procedures. 5: Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations, and technical orders. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures. 6: Knowledge of applicable personnel, manpower, time, and attendance, and budgeting instructions, guidelines, and requirements. Knowledge of requirements and skill in the use of SOAP and CEMS. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: 1: Performs other related duties as assigned. 2: May conduct OJT and/or classroom training. Also works with engineering, quality, and laboratory personnel in establishing new testing procedures, providing practical technical assistance based on knowledge and experience. 3: Completes Oil Breakdown Rate Analysis (COBRA): Performs COBRA inspections of aircraft engine oil samples to determine the rate of lubricant degradation. Establishes and monitors trend analysis of the applicable engine. 4: This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. 5: May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments. 6: This is a testing designated position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. 7: Mobility is a condition of employment. The employee must sign an Air Force-wide mobility agreement.
