The employee is responsible for direct coordination of the credentialing and privileging process of the members of the Medical Service (Physicians, Registered Nurse Practitioners (RNP) and Physician Assistants - Certified (PA(C)). The position is located at the VA Medical Center in West Roxbury, Massachusetts.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include but not limited to: Coordinates the credentialing and privileging process of the members of the Medical Service. Manages peer review for Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE and FPPE) process. Functions as the technical advisor to Medicine as the liaison with the Medical Staff Office on all credentialing and privileging matters. Ensures all recommendations from the Professional Standards Board are acted upon in a timely manner and provides technical guidance to the Medical staff on the intricacies of the Credentialing and Privileging process. Functions as the Medical Service liaison with the Nursing and other Professional Standards Boards and ensures all requirements are met for the initial appointment of Medicine's Advance Practice Nurses. Works closely with the Human Resources Service on new appointments and changes in appointment status. Coordinates "emergency privileges" and submits them to the Director of the Medical Center through the Chief of Staff for approval. Serves as technical assistant and administrative advisor to the Program Directors and Chief Medical Residents. Coordinates the house staff and staff physicians' on-call schedules and pager lists for medical centers, as needed. Maintains a database for all time sensitive certifications and licenses, as needed. Maintains accurate, complete, and concise credentialing and privileging electronic folders on all privileged personnel. Drafts memos for Chief of Medicine's review and signature. Follows up on continuing medical education credits and works with each new/re-appointed staff member to ensure process is understood and completed correctly, as needed. Prepares and requests prescriptive privileges to be reviewed by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, as needed. Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the federal service that has given the applicant the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Credentialing Program Assistant, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes utilizing knowledge of state licensure and medical specialty board requirements to verify credentials via written inquiry, telephone contact or website; collecting, compiling, and tracking data; and preparing reports. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: ClericalCommunicationsWritten Communication IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. However, some walking, bending, reaching and carrying of items such as medical files and reports is required. Commuting between Medical Center divisions, affiliated institutions and sometimes staff homes is required.
