About the Position: Serves as a Human Resources Assistant in a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS). Incumbent of this position provides administrative support to the Reception-Administration Control Desk (RACD), Record Maintenance and Accountability, and Enlistment Processing to include fingerprinting of applicants.
this will be filled on a permanent basis.
Duties
Fingerprints applicants using automated systems, ensuring fingerprints are classifiable (acceptable). Reconciles fingerprint transaction history reports ensuring acceptance of fingerprint records at OPM/FBI.
Transmits fingerprints electronically to the investigating agency (OPM/FBI); initiating background check. Performs preventive maintenance on the fingerprint scanner, to include weekly calibration of equipment.
Ensures timely release of and accountability for processing records to the medical section, the services and external agencies for review.
Screens applicants’ records to ascertain that all necessary documents are present according to the requirements of each military service.
Assembles enlistment documents, in accordance with specific service requirements. Performs Quality Review/quality control of applicant records, packets and forms. Files incoming material in accordance with an established filing system.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Employee may be required to work an occasional Saturday and/or shift work (work before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
- Employees will routinely be required to work unscheduled overtime to accommodate fluctuations in workload based on the daily mission requirements.
- This position requires a qualified typist. You must be able to type 40 words per minute with three or fewer errors.
- Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, such as: (1) Operating and maintaining a fingerprint system to ensure proper prints are obtained;
(2) Preparing transportation orders (i.e. travel claims, reservations, or per diem claims) for applicants; (3) Briefing applicants on rules and procedures to ensure understanding and compliance; (4) Maintaining and searching records to provide information to requestors; (5) Obtaining data from applicants to verify eligibility for military enlistment; (6) Utilizing office automation software programs to accomplish tasks. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05: Successful completion of four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education in excess of 2 years by 60. Add the 2 percentages. Note: For the purpose of qualifications, 1 full year of undergraduate education is equivalent to 30 semester hours.) (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
