Duties

Operate land-mobile radio equipment to receive and transmit messages with emergency responders. Operate computer systems such as Computer Aided Dispatch and E-911 phone systems to provide public safety resources. Provide Emergency Medical Dispatch Life Support care through pre-arrival instructions to callers. Communicate with emergent and non-emergent callers to ensure proper resources are provided using various technology such as computer, telephone, radio, email, and fax machine to relay information. Interpret geospatial data to provide emergency response to the correct location. Advises and assist commander and staff members on all matters pertaining to motor vehicle management and maintenance. Interact with callers using defined questioning techniques to determine nature of call and appropriate response.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Obtain and maintain within 6 months of employment Department of Defense (DoD) Telecommunicator I and II (or equivalent Certification).
  • Obtain and maintain within 6 months of employment DoD Hazmat Awareness Certification.
  • Obtain and maintain within 6 months of employment certification in Basic Life Support CPR.
  • Obtain and maintain within 12 months of employment certification in Emergency Police Dispatch.
  • Obtain and maintain within 12 months of employment certification in Emergency Fire Dispatch.
  • Work requires 12-hour rotating shifts which includes days, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing.
  • Incumbent is required to work (weather essential) regardless of weather conditions, Terrorist Force Protection Condition (TFPCON) or installation closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
  • Subject to call back and on-call as the mission requires.
  • Obtain and maintain within 12 months of employment certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch education requirements through in-service training that is offered locally. The incumbent must maintain an overall compliance score in the performance of duties of 90 percent.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Communicating detailed instructions for emergency or non-emergency situations from within an emergency communication center, such as (providing specific locations to police, fire or EMS responders using a trunked radio system); 2) Prioritizing all incoming emergency and non-emergency calls, such as (recognizing the difference in priority between a reported heart attack victim and a lost cell phone report); 3) Accurately creating entries or inputting records into automated data systems that are public safety or criminal justice centric, such as (entering a person as wanted or a gun as stolen in National Criminal Information Center records); and 4) Creating electronic documents to record activities, transactions, or other records that are public safety or criminal justice centric, such as (creating calls for service in Computer Aided Dispatch or Priority Dispatch Paramount software. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
