The VA Capitol Healthcare Network is seeking a highly qualified Construction Maintenance Mechanic for the Hershel "Woody" Williams VA Medical Center in Huntington, WV.

Duties

The Construction Maintenance Mechanic determines techniques and tools required, selects materials and tools, maintains inventory of supplies, and coordinates with other services and individuals to ensure patient access to care is uninterrupted. Uses power tools such as table saws, radial arm saws, band saws, electric hand saws, electric jointers, and planers (both fixed and portable), assists in keeping all tools used in his/her section in good repair and working condition. Uses hand tools and measuring devices such as drills, tape measures, framing squares, carpenter tours, screw drivers, impact wrenches, etc. and assists in keeping all tools used in his/her section in good repair and working condition. Performs carpentry alterations, erection of partitions using wood and metal studs, furring out walls, hanging drywall, hanging doors, repairs and constructs window screens, screen doors, and storm windows and doors, and builds forms for concrete. Assembles and installs shelving, both wood and metal, repairs furniture and keeps in repair all fixed and movable cabinets. Installs and repairs all types of floor coverings such as asphalt and vinyl tile, wood floors, and carpeting install and repair, all types of roofing and guttering, and installs various types of ceiling tile and track including fiberglass soundproof ceiling tile. Work Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8-4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Construction Maintenance Mechanic/PD20043A Physical Requirements: Work involves standing, bending, sitting, squatting, and kneeling for long periods of time in a cramped position. May be required to crawl into tight places or climb to heights as much as 100 feet from the ground and then perform duties at this height. Physical effort requires hand sawing, nailing, and lifting large articles or assemblies. Work is carried on both inside and outside in fair weather and foul, in ventilated and unventilated areas, and is subject to cuts and bruises during the erection of the wooden framework of buildings and structures. There is also a danger of falling from scaffolds, platforms, ladders, and roofs. While removing awnings and screens is subject to wasp and hornet stings while working on ladders and other platforms. The most prevalent source of accidents in their work is in the use of power tools that can easily cause hand and eye injuries.
